Bring the fair to your house with our Carnival Corn Dogs, battered hot dogs on a stick. Throw some yellow mustard on these and you'll feel like you're surrounded by carnival rides. These homemade corn dogs are fun food the whole family will enjoy! And besides being easy to make and so yummy, after trying this recipe you'll stop buying them when you're out and about because these are so much better and way cheaper.
In a large pot heat the 2 quarts of oil to 350 degrees.
While the oil gets to temperature, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Then add the egg, honey, buttermilk and 2 tbsp of vegetable oil and stir until combined. Pour this all into a tall glass for easier dipping.
Insert a skewer into each hot dog you're making. Dip each hot dog into the batter glass and swirl to make sure its evenly coated.
Tip: Make sure that the batter is coating a bit of the skewer/stick so that the coating stays on.
Cooking one or two at a time, fry each corn dog for about 2-3 minutes, turning a couple times, and then transfer to a paper towel lined plate. Repeat with all the hot dog skewers.
Serve with yellow mustard or ketchup.
